Since the Lindsley tragedy in St. Augustine I have thought some people must be afraid of being called in court. If you could assure individuals that you would not make known their testimony, but would verify the facts in another manner – they could be silent witnesses.
The ex-mayors testimony stops at the parking lot. This may not be true.
Consider this sequence. He left for home, hurried and showered and dressed for dinner then came to pick up his wife. She in turn was putting the bird ahead of getting ready for the dinner.
He came rushing in and found what he thought was putting the bird ahead of him and blurted out a cross remark. The wife retaliated. He jerked the bird cage. Wife screamed. He attempted to stop her – using any unusual tool – car keys – piece of cage – even broken water cup.
The throat is very delicate and would not need an ax or machete.
This was not anticipated, but the spur of anger and then desperation. He left and went home where he had time to redress before being called.
(If he had planned the murder he could easily have done so on the Jax road or by other means.)
Suggestions: Did he stop for a drink at a bar en route to home?
Has the laundry people been interrogated?
Has the garbage collector been queried?
Has the bar en route to home been asked about signs in the men’s room?
Have the people at the meeting been promised silence?
Has the McCormick boy been promised silenced if he has reconsidered his story?
Does the ex-mayor have a history of anger?
Does the political enemy fit McCormick’s description?
Please try out the anger story. |

| This letter was one of a collection of anonymous public letters sent to Sheriff Garrett at the time of the investigation. |

| OK, thanks, I find that letter strange for some reason. |
